Devlog 2 - CHAPTER 1 UPDATE
Hey everyone! I wanted to make a short post to let you know that Chapter 1 of Divine Omen is getting a pretty big update soon...on May 24 to be exact. First, let me assure everyone that it will still be free to play both here and on Steam. This will be the case until Chapter 2 releases, which will cost money! Now, let's get into what changes in this new update.
- The most noteworthy changes center around the artwork. I've updated a lot of older sprites as my skills have improved. I've reworked roughly 40-50 sprites. Here are just a few examples showcasing the new ones!

And here are the old ones...I'll let you compare...
I've also added a chapter select menu! This will be mostly unavailable for now, but it will come in handy when the other chapters release. The chapter select menu offers a summary of each chapter as well as your completion status, which I may end up swapping out for a percentage later. We'll see! Here's what it looks like:
I also ended up having to remove the "Continue" button from the main menu screen. It was causing a few problems now that I'm working on later chapters!just kidding it's back...there was a major oversight regarding variables resetting on return to the main menu after completing a chapter - persistent variables weren't a viable solution so I reworked everything and had to remove the chapter select page! That's okay, I might put something cool it its place.
- In the past few months, I've also picked up a new skill: making music. My goal is to make as much of this game on my own as possible, so while the old tracks I found on Pixabay were wonderful (and the artist who created them is very skilled!), they weren't really mine. Here's a sample of one of about 9 tracks that will be put into my game, replacing the current music:
One of my favorite additions is a simple one...*FULL* CONTROLLER SUPPORT! We were close before, but now it's 100%!
You can also expect various minor changes - framing of certain scenes, slight dialogue changes/omissions, microscopic bug fixes, changes to Avan's journal (I made it less cringe).
Ideally I'll completely revamp the journal from the ground up...if time allows!time did not allow but i did it anyway
That's all for now! See you on May 24 :-) Thanks for reading!!! (also maybe wishlist on steam jk unless..)

This is great news! Just yesterday I was thinking about replaying the demo and here is such a pleasant surprise! Thanks again that the game is going straight to Steam. itch is becoming an increasingly difficult resource to access. And purchasing is not available at all in some countries.
I'm so honored to hear you're still thinking of my game! I don't remember if I had it up and running last time we spoke, but if not...Chapter 1 is available on Steam now! It's the same thing that's here on itch, but may be more accessible for you there. It's still free there too which is a plus! Chapter 2 will be there once it's complete, but it's still cooking for now - although I'm halfway done!!! :-)
I am glad that work on the game continues. And of course, I have long added it to my wishlist on Steam. I really like the atmosphere of the game. And I like the orderliness of the internal mechanics - this is a sign not only of talent but also of discipline without which developers, unfortunately, often fall by the wayside. I wish you strength and patience so that this project is brought to completion.
